FORT MYERS, Fla., July 5, 2016 -- The Junior League of Fort Myers has announced the selection of Laura Richardson as the new event chair for the 2016 Taste of the Town, on Sunday Nov 6, 2016 at JetBlue Park.
Taste of the Town is the signature fundraising event of the Junior League of Fort Myers. Its proceeds benefit the volunteer mission of the 50-year-old service and leadership organization for women. Taste of the Town is in its 34th year and began as a small “French Picnic” at several locations throughout Fort Myers, with members creating most of the menu. Each year between 40 and 50 restaurants provide “tastes” of their best dishes at low prices to showcase their food to the public.
Ms. Richardson, 31, is a resident of Fort Myers and works as the Development Coordinator for BIG ARTS of Sanibel. She is deeply involved in community volunteerism as well as non-profit fundraising and has been a member of the Junior League since 2015. In addition to her leadership in the JLFM, Ms. Richardson is also the founder and current leader of the Young Professionals Association of Sanibel & Captiva and the Sanibel & Captiva Toastmasters club, as well as actively involved in the Greater Fort Myers Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta, Alumnae Panhellenic of Lee County, and Gulf Coast Humane Society. Her further involvement with Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity includes a regionally role as an Alumnae District Director and nationally with their Young Alumnae Board. Ms. Richardson obtained her B.A. from Denison University and her M.A. from Johns Hopkins University.
“I’m honored to lead a group of strong and community-minded women to continue to fundraise for the JLFM, who helps protect and educate women, children, and families in Southwest Florida” said Ms. Richardson. “Taste of the Town allows the JLFM to share our mission with the community and we are looking forward to another fabulous event at JetBlue Park!”
